When I turned Bluetooth off and back on again on the iPad and powered the keyboard off and back on, it showed up as Bluetooth Keyboard and Not Paired, just as it should, and paired successfully with the iPad. I guess the moral of the story is it would be helpful if BT keyboard makers would be sure to give their devices less generic names.
