Empire realism is strange. It turns the battles into more of a tabletop war game. Big brick units that represent a fighting unit as oppose to on guy is one guy. After a unit takes about %80 damage, it's firepower is halved due to cohesion and moral and the like. If you want a different kind of empire total war, I'd recommend it.
